♢ Practical links. I put in way more hours into sims 3, so maybe my current opinion is biased by simply having less time with 4. That said, I would pick 4.I definitely miss the open world.
In the Sims 4 I rarely leave the area immediately around my house (or my job for the three jobs you can visit in an expansion). You look back at the first sims 3 trailers about getting into the world, well in the sims 4 it kind of feels like your door is shutting again, even if not fully. I see other random sims less. I have less challenges I can put on myself such as a homeless playthrough. Load screens can be irritating even on an SSD.
It also makes me more cautious about future expansion potential. I mean if they have universities will we be loading between each building? Will we even go in any or will they just disappear for a while?I also really miss being able to change the color and texture of anything. You could really make anything the way you wanted. Want the house to look a bit shabby? Maybe use some rougher textures, make metal look a bit scratched or rusted. Want that outfit to be totally knit?
Totally leather? Your call.I miss toddlers. I know it doesn't seem like a big deal to some, but it hurts the game for me. It feels like one step closer to making the game exclusively about living out a teenagers view of a perfect life. Toddlers are work. It's potty training and teaching to walk and talk.
Now they just become kids instantly so your perfect young adult sims and now be your perfect older adult. I miss the tight family elements.I miss expansions like seasons and pets, though those are surely coming later. Seasons again really just brings a lot of character to any kind of sims life. Pets while less significant, also just add that much more life.I miss the 3d live map.
It still baffles me, the sims 4 town map. The cheapest looking thing they could have done, not even render a town.
Even if it was just things we couldn't ever visit, making the map 3d and colourful would have added that much moreI miss the build mode. Sims 4 is alright, but just has so much weird non sense to work around. You can learn how to do most of the same stuff, but it's incredibly unintuitive and way harder than it needs to be. All lots are flat in 4, no terrain tools. 3 let you shape the land of your lots and town.I miss making towns.
You can't make anything in sims 4. To see the potential in 3 just look up Setra.Now what I like in 4:Sounds silly to say, but it looks better. The sort of cartoony touch fits the game amazingly. Everything just looks better. 3 had this roughness to it that simply isn't there anymore. The interface is better too in my opinion.I like having a stable game.
Even with performance mods, 3 was just unreliable. I rarely crashed but frames were unreliable, and it's not like crashes never happened.I like the mood system. It's shallow, and becomes pretty gamey (walking through your house drastically jumping between moods because each room forces you into one is absurd); but it does feel nice at times, like that much more character. You get a better impression your sim is short tempered or gloomy.The moment to moment is great. The multitasking surprises me to this day with things they're willing to do at the same time.I like the create a sim better as far as how the sims look goes.
It does feel like I have an easier time making reasonable looking yet unique characters. I'm addicted to the sims. I have a problem. That being said, I have almost all the expansions for sims 3, especially pets and supernatural. They are my ALL time favorite.Then I got sims 4. I have everything but maybe 3 stuff packs. I cannot bring myself to go back to the sims 3.
I think about it fondly, thinking I can make toddlers and be a werewolf or fairy and have a cat. But then I start up my sims 4 and obsess about getting my Sim all the way up in the new science career.I think while the sims 4 broken down to the basics, the basics are way better than sims 3. I also love the graphics and the house building.But that's just my opinion! I'm weird and I'm going to go back to my sims.
I found a bug where death walks around town and I'm on a mission to seduce him. Sims 4.Way faster to load and way less laggy. It's way easier on my not so high end laptop.The new emotions and sims are really nice.The hands on jobs are great in Get to Work.

Most likely we'll see stuff like Pets and Seasons get redone for the Sims 4 in the upcoming months/years.Since The Sims 4 is newer, it has a more active modding scene as of recently. The Sims 3 has a ton of mods though and there's no lack of mods.Create a Sim is better now in my opinion. Loads faster, clothes don't take 5 minutes to load, it's a lot more responsive, and editing with details is way easier.(That's just my opinion. I've played both games a ton.)The Sims 3 does have way more expansions and content at the moment, with stuff like Pets, Seasons, Ambitions, and University adding lots of gameplay and content. I'm not into faeries, vampires, witches and all that stuff.
I like a game that I can play when I want, not half an hour after I start it up. I like a game with simple intuitive UI.
